Do you know what Aristotle's view on free will was? From the sounds of things, I would imagine he was more against the idea in its literal sense.

Thanks Kyle - still lots of hard work to be put in!

In the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle says that, unlike nonrational agents, we have the power to do or not to do, and much of what we do is voluntary. But the jury is up to whether this is actually free will - or if our actions are a product of our past etc.

So not sure he had an exact explanation. It definitely seems as though he is happy to show kindness and sympathy with those who aren't virtuous which leans towards less moral responsibility I guess.
